The company’s name comes from dancehall culture, where the term “selecta” or “selector” refers to a DJ who selects tunes for a party or gathering.The logo represents a vinyl disc used on classic DJ turntables. The font for the logo, Proxima Nova, was chosen because the “C” shape allowed for a near perfect circle, representing the hole in the center of a vinyl record. The “L” in the logo extends to meet the edge of the “disc” representing a tonearm, needed for a record player needle to find the groove of the record. The “T” is also extended downward to provide balance to the logo, touching the outer edge of the opposite side of the disc.
